So much has happened today. I’ve been trying to revise for my upcoming Econometrics exam but, as much as that subject brings me blisteringly brilliant joy, the Arsene press conference and Paddy signing for Citeh has proved disastrously distracting. So let’s get into it.
Yesterday I said that we would need to trust the manager if he decides not to sign any forwards this transfer window. Before the window, we were told that whether we sign a forward would be dependant on the fitness levels of Nicky Bendtner. This is what Le Prof had to say today after breaking news that ol’ Pink Boots should be back in two weeks:
If he was out for two months, we wouldn’t have a choice. But now we can be a little bit more relaxed. We have quite a good number of strikers coming back.
So it looks like we’re going to go with what we’ve got. You know my views on this, they are in the previous blog. I genuinely feel we have enough in our locker to win the league with what we’ve got. Bendtner coming back provides us with a forward option that we don’t have, and it is going to be essential that he remains fit for the rest of the season. I actually laughed as I wrote that. This is Arsenal Football Club we’re talking about.
With Gael, Captain Fantastic and Carlton Banks set to come back for the Bolton game at the Reekbok, there seems to be some kind of light at the end of the tunnell concerning our injuries and hopefully we can maintain this until the end of the season. If you consider how well we’ve done with absentees, then we can only get better when we have our full team back for the final stretch.
I think this forms part of Wenger’s thinking when regarding new recruits. Of course, no-one on this delightful world that we inhabit could ever be prive to Wengers transfer thoughts. However, what is clear is that we have squad depth, especially when concerning the forward areas. Bringing in another forward would be nice, but we would have a lot of forwards and the dressing room harmony is pretty high you would assume right now. Were we to inhabit too many forwards in our dressing room, then some kind of Cluedo murder could go down.
In this instance we’ll say Chamakh is the victim. Did Carlos Vela beat him like a piñata? Or did Theo laugh him to death with his Carlton Banks dance? No-one wants any game-time related murders to be going on at our club. We are a club of integrity and one of values.
Something that came across in abundance during Ivan Gazidis’ interview with SkySports. In his year at Arsenal Ivan has presided over many a good thing. We’ve seen two great aquisitions in Andrei and Thomas, along with Arsenalisation and the record profits. You can tell he’s someone who has taken the values of our club to heart and you can also tell that he actually cares about the fans. At no point during the interview did I think, ‘This guy is chatting shit just to appease us.’ This can only be a good thing. No? Further good news is that he expects Le Boss to sign a new contract, stating it should be a ‘quick and amicable’ agreement.
If that is good news, we now turn our attention to the mixed feelings news. Firstly, the news that filtered through last night and has gathered pace today that we are going to re-sign Sol ‘Walk Out At Half-Time’ Campbell. He’s been training with us since walking out of Notts County, who I feel quite sorry for seeing as they are now looking for new owners again. What did they do to deserve that? Arsene had this to say when quizzed on him:
We have a level of interest for every good player… He trains very hard.
I think it’s only a matter of days before we see he has signed for us. I could never really imagine Arsene re-signing someone but he seems to be pretty keen on this one. Apparantly it all rests upon whether Senderos leaves or not. I would be sad to see him go. I thought that, with time and guidance, he could turn out to be a really good centre back. Obviously Wenger doesn’t concur and it looks like Phillipe will go. If that’s the case then Sol can come in and do a job. Imagine if Vermaelan AND Gallas got injured though. We’d be looking at one old arse, slow arse, big headed defence. Let’s pray that’s not the case.
I’m not gonna say much about Paddy going to Manchester City. I’m happy for him to go there, earn his money and do his thing. I can’t see how it’s an improvement on Barry and De Jong but they will get a natural leader. Whether he has the legs he used to is another matter. Time will tell whether it will be a good deal for them.
This is a long arse blog. If you’ve got to here without skimming through I applaud and thank you.
I might blog again later cause I’m going back up to University tomorrow so I may miss the chance to blog about tomorrow’s game.
I love Arsenal.
And I love you!
Toodles!

[...] Who would you play? Me, personally, would go with Nicklas Bendtner. Every club has that one player that opposition fans hate and he is probably our prime candidate. I’ve always backed Bendtner. If you need proof, look here. [...]
